Roomi
2022
OVERVIEW
I created Roomi as part of Our Wave Hub’s No-Code & Marketing Fundamentals course. Over six weeks, we were challenged to:
- Identify a real-world problem
- Research user needs
- Build a functional no-code app (I used Google Sheets as the backend database!)
- Design a landing page
Roomi is a no-code digital home manager built to simplify shared living. It gives roommates a central hub to coordinate calendars, chores, purchases, and more, helping everyone stay organized and keep communication stress-free.
As my first app and web design project, Roomi challenged me to learn no-code tools, UX principles, and marketing fundamentals quickly, skills I applied to create a fully functional app and launch a live landing page in just six weeks.
THE PROBLEM
In Canada, over 30% of people live with roommates, a number that’s growing as housing costs rise. But shared living comes with challenges. Conflicts about cleaning, noise, or shared expenses often go unaddressed because confrontation can feel awkward. The result? A tense home environment where issues pile up just like the dirty dishes.
THE SOLUTION
Roomi helps create positive roommate relationships by making communication about chores and other responsibilities easier.
- Shared calendars for events and schedules
- Automated chore reminders
- Shopping lists and expense tracking
- A single, organized space for everything roommates need
The goal: fewer awkward conversations, more harmonious living.
RESEARCH
Through secondary research and conversations with roommates, I uncovered key pain points:
- Top conflicts: cleanliness, noise, issues with guests.
- Communication preferences: 71.5% confront points of tension and conflict in person, 26.6% by text, 13.9% avoid it altogether.
- Demographics: 87% of post-secondary students and 31.9% of adults live with roommates.
TARGET AUDIENCE
- Young & Outgoing: 18–25, first-time renters, busy social lives.
- Organized: Their habits and behaviours in life and at work are ordered, planned, and efficient.
- Considerate: They are polite and care about the feelings of others, including those who they live with.
