Medscan

For HackNYU

2022

HackNYU is a 48-hour hackathon hosted by NYU students around the world to create innovative technology projects that address a variety of issues.

MedScan won the Dream Big and Create More Cheers award with AB InBev.

In collaboration with Joey Koh, Cyra Anindya, and Alesha Reeva Khokhar

During this role, I was responsible for the overall design, including both the visual elements and the UI/UX aspects of the website and app.

Medscan was my first UX project. While I'm proud of the effort I put into it at the time, I now recognize numerous areas where I would approach things differently today, from colour palettes to user flows.

It was also my first time working with developers, which taught me firsthand about the importance of understanding technical constraints, and finding creative solutions together.

This project showcases my growth and evolution as a designer, each project has been an opportunity to learn, adapt, and improve.

OVERVIEW

MedScan is a mobile and website-based scanning software that provides details on medication and the risk of Adverse Drug Reactions.

With its unique scanning and interaction-checking modules, MedScan can prevent the 1.6 million Adverse Drug reactions that occur today. It can warn a user about the reaction before it occurs and connects them with help as necessary. Best of all, MedScan does this all instantaneously. So, it is very convenient and accessible for everyone at all times.

I worked on the design and UI/UX of this app and the website for this project, I used Figma to develop a prototype which we used to scale the web app.

To build MedScan, we utilized HTML, CSS, TensorFlow , Google Cloud, ML, Figma, and more.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

We are proud of being able to integrate so many functional components into our project in the limited time we have. Even more than that, we are proud of creating a solution that can help resolve such a widespread problem. Additionally, we are proud of being able to collaborate with our skills in order to build this application within the given time frame while also having group members working in 3 different time zones.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR MEDSCAN

  • Include an integration system for doctors to upload their prescriptions for patients.
  • Create a system that checks the inventory for the user's medicine in other pharmacies around them.
