Roomi

A digital home manager for roommates, creating a space for everyone where you can coordinate calendars, events, chores, purchases, and more—all in one convenient spot. With Roomi, you can manage your shared spaces and make your life easier.

OVERVIEW

I built Roomi when participating in Our Wave Hub's No-Code and Marketing fundamentals course. During those 6 weeks, we were asked to identify a problem, understand users' needs, build a no-code app, create a landing page, and develop a marketing strategy.

THE PROBLEM

In Canada, more than 30% of Canadians live with roommates. With the cost of housing increasing, more individuals are choosing to live in shared living spaces. When living with a group of people, issues will arise, and confronting your housemates about their behaviours can also be uncomfortable. But by avoiding confrontation, you wind up living in an unhealthy environment where you or others may have to live with whatever's bothering you or expressing your discontent passively-aggressively (such as letting dirty dishes pile up).

THE SOLUTION

Roomi helps create positive roommate relationships by making communication about chores and other accountabilities easier. Notifications for chores, shared calendars, shopping lists, and more are just some of the things that make Roomi great.

RESEARCH

Through secondary research along with having conversations with individuals living with roommates I was able to gain some important insights:

  • The most common problems between roommates include being too loud, not cleaning, and issues with guests.
  • According to a study done by Apartment Guide, 71.5% of roommates confront points of tension and conflict in person while 26.6% preferred to confront over text, and 13.9% prefer to not address their concerns at all.
  • 87% of post-secondary students live with roommates and 31.9% of the adult population live in shared living spaces

My research allowed me to find my target audience:

Young and Outgoing

Students ages 18-25 that are working full or part-time while in school. This is their first time living in a shared space outside of their home, either post-secondary or a recent grad. They love socializing and having company over.

Organized

Their habits and behaviours in life and at work are ordered, planned, and efficient.

Considerate

They are polite and care about the feelings of others, including those who they live with.
